Basic Product Info

Vortex V3 keyless gas cap
Brand

Vortex has released a new line of products called the V3 line. We have recently upgrade one of our track bikes from the old version cap to this new V3 keyless cap version. I know what your thinking a gas cap is a gas cap how can they improve on it. Well they did!

The older version has a very simple pressure relief system. I used the old cap for 3 years and each time I removed the cap after the bike had heated up, it would spit out a little gas onto my tank. To avoid this, I opened it really slow and let the pressure bleed off. As Iam sure you know, rattle can paint jobs (common on race bikes) do not like gas!

Another problem with the old cap is that it had very fine treads. I never cross threaded it because I was very careful but it always took me multiple tries each time to engage the threads. And I always over tightened it because I was afraid it would come loose while I was riding.

Both of these problems are fixed with the new version. The venting is very much improved and I can open it fast without getting any gas spitting out. This is essential because, for whatever reason, I only remember to fill the bike when I hear the last call for my session to start. The threads are coarse now, easy to start, easy to spin closed and there is virtually no chance of cross threading it. Also, Vortex added the positive locking tab. I no longer over tighten the cap because I know there is zero chance of it getting past the lock device.

I am sold, I wont use an older version again. The feel of the new cap each time I open and close it makes me smile!
