So you want to do some track days on your sport-bike?  Or maybe you want to try your hand at racing?  If you get serious about these pursuits, a set of racing plastics are in your future.  Track bodywork alleviates all of the glass and lighting plastics that you don't want on the track.  Often, these lights are not race legal anyway.  An added bonus is race plastics are lighter and often tougher.

ASV’s F3 Holiday Pro Pack Special

Just like the 2009 holiday season, ASV Inventions has returned their F3 Holiday Pro Pack lever special to their line-up. Last year it was a very popular purchase and there is most certainly a good reason for this. ASV produces exceptionally innovative levers which are designed to survive in the event of a crash or tip-over. The levers pivot away from the handlebar when impacted; they then will instantly spring back to their proper position when the bike is righted.

The F3 levers are reach adjustable and come in two lengths – a shorty style and standard – to allow for all hand sizes and instrument configuration preferences. They are constructed from durable forged 6061 aluminum, use sealed bearings in their perch pivots, can be completely rebuilt, have a three-year ‘no questions asked’ guarantee and are made in the USA. For this holiday promotion the levers will be made available in anodized black, blue or red finishes with the ASV logo laser-etched into them. The F3 levers are available for most late-model off-road motorcycles, ATVs and street-based bikes.

The F3 Holiday Pro Pack includes two F3 Series Pro Model control levers, an ASV quick-adjust Pro clutch perch with Rotator Bar Sleeve, a branded front-brake dust cover, and a color-matched Rotator Clamp which allows even the perches to rotate upon impact. If you were to purchase ach piece of this kit separately, it would cost you US$220. But, this season’s deal brings the price down to a reasonable $159.95 – that makes for over $60 in savings! For an additional $20, you can purchase the F3 units with integrated hot-start levers in the package.

This is a limited time offer, so see your dealer soon. Click on the website for further details: www.ASVinventions.com.

Rubber Review: Shinko 705 Series Dual-Sport Tires

I tested a set of Shinko sport-bike tires a few months ago and walked away impressed.  The company is a relatively new name in the ultra-competitive world of motorcycle tires.  For the most part, Shinko tires are building a solid reputation.

Recently, I had the chance to ride a big dual-sport fitted with Shinko 705 Series tires.  Riders of large dual-sports (like the Kawasaki KLR) and adventure tourers (like the BMW GS) have to be particularly attentive in their choice of rubber.  They have to realistically determine the percentage of their riding time that is spent on the dirt.  The Shinko 705s are billed as a 75/25 tire.  That means 75% street and 25% dirt duty.  I would say that is a fairly accurate assessment of the tires’ terrain suitability.

I found the 705s to be stable on hard-packed dirt and gravel.  On the other hand, these are definitely not tires intended for soft dirt and sand, where they wallow badly.  However, for fast fire-road duty, they are fully in their element.  On the pavement, the tires display adequate straight-line tracking and good cornering properties.  However, I did notice that the tread pattern contributed to a bit more vibration on the road than some other DS tires on which I have ridden.  The vibration was not enough to dampen my overall positive impression of the tires.

The 705s are H-rated tires, in a 4-ply, tubeless design.  At a competitive retail price of $60 - $105, I believe Shinko has a winner here.

Traditional ethylene glycol (EG) coolant is toxic (even deadly) to humans and animals if ingested, and is extremely environmentally unfriendly.  To make things worse, domestic pets seem to love the taste of it.  The problem is our bikes need something to prevent both coolant freeze and boil.

Would you be interested in a product that cools much more effectively than EG antifreeze with up to 50 degrees of additional cooling in high performance engines? What about one that is biodegradable and substantially less harmful to pets and humans? Now you’re interested, right?

Michelin Bib Mousse Tire Tubes: The Cure for the Common Flat?

If you live where thorns punch their way into your dirt-bike tubes, and rocks inflict those nasty sidewall pinches, the thought of a semi-solid tube may seem appealing. Michelin Bib Mousse Tire Tubes are just such a thing.
