DOT tires to slicks…how sticky they feel!

DOT tires to slicks…how sticky they feel!

Julian V. Taylor
Editor-In-Chief
When you hear professional racers on TV explaining their favorite tire choices and how much grip they have, did you ever think about relating that to our world?
They talk about how long the tires last in a race and how the extra one hundredth of a second made a difference coming out of a corner in their overall plan of the race. They talk about the compound and whether what they chose was the right choice or not. Well I am not proposing that I pushed these tires to their limits like they do, but I certainly felt the difference between slicks and DOT tires when I tested the difference recently at a couple of local circuits.

Slip-On Exhaust

Shed some pounds, add some appearance, make some noise (or not) and add plenty of power…a slip-on is the way to go.

Ron Lieback
AllAboutBikes.com Staff Writer

One of the most affordable ways to add power to your bike while shedding loads of weight, improving appearance and adding a high-performance sound is by installing a slip-on exhaust. There are many popular slip-ons, also known as cans, on the market from industry leaders LeoVince, Jardine, Yoshimura and Akrapovic, to name a few, with prices ranging from $250 to over $1,000.

Rubber Side Down

Rubber Side Down

Olaf Wolff
AllAboutBikes Staff Writer

Regardless of how sweet your engine’s singing, how precisely dialed-in you finally tweaked the suspension. This can be your track, and you’re in a crazy groove, riding like a Jedi. If your tires suck. It’s a big no-go.

Yes Billy, in the bigs, tire compound selection is rocket science – have no doubts about that. The difference between rubber that melts, blisters, or crumbles on a hellishly hot asphalt-liquefying track and those that wear evenly, yanking-hold like a Magic Mountain rollercoaster – is the difference between wins and DNF’s – no doubts about that either.
