When I hear stories about little old ladies and motorcycles, I get a major case of the warm and fuzzies. I don't know what it is, but I love hearing about things like old women riding Harleys. So, when I saw this story from the Agusta Chronicle, I knew I had to post it.
By day, Dr. Ellen Lewis is a mild mannered high school vice principal. But this self-proclaimed "old lady" doesn't let that keep her from her real passion: racing motorcycles. It all started when her brother, Tom Clancy (no, not that Tom Clancy), started selling Triumphs and Ducatis at his dealership. In his spare time, he organized a racing team. Soon, his business took off and he wasn't able to keep up the team --- so his sister stepped in and started managing it for him.
The team competes in both regional and national events, and they've been winning. Mark Crozier and Phil Caudill, two of the team's star racers, scored an impressive win last month at the American Motorcycle Association's Pro SunTrust Moto-GT race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
"It was absolutely the most spectacular thing," Dr. Lewis said. "Being a small, privateer team to begin with, it's kind of like David and Goliath."
Here's hoping her winning streak continues!
