The AllAboutBikes family is pleased to announce the first prize: a set of Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires (MSRP: $450)!

Here are a few details about our kick-ass first prize of the contest:  to start, they're made out of new compounds that offer fast warm up, linear grip at all temperatures and excellent wet performance. Meanwhile, optimized balance of carbon black and silica in the compounds promote even wear and mechanical wet grip with great traction, all while providing the good mileage you expect while riding your bike. Finally, front and rear profiles work in coordination to provide you with precise trajectories at every lean angle. Clearly put, you want these tires. You really, really want them.

THIS WEEK'S BLOG TOPIC IS TIRE PRICES!

Tell us how much you normally spend on new tires for your bike. Do you go the expensive route, or do you save your cash and go with a bargain brand? Leave your comments, we'll be checking and responding at least once a day (so don't be shy).

I currently have Bridgestone BT-015 (tires that come stock on a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa) which I don't have enough miles on yet to determine if I like them or not. I can however say with confidence that Dunlops were a really durable and almost race track ready tire for my previous bike (2007 GSXR 1000).

I have firestone right now but in the market for new ones. I will tell you I dont know much about tires and I really need to learn. Women can not always depend on men for car advice and I would rather know walking in the guess and regrete later

I was invited to an early morning canyon ride, the weather was quite cold and I couldn't shake the feeling that I would'nt be able to get my tires up to temperature. In my 34 years of riding, for this ride I was certain I was heading off to crash,
I sat that one out.

Right now I have the Bridgestone BT016 as standard issue from the manufacturer. I do a lot of commuting but also love the twisties. I have to say the manufacturers choice is spot on for a mixture of longevity and traction. I do plan on putting on a set of track tires for track day, (whenever I finally get there).

THE ABSOLUTE WORST TIRES EVER ARE THE TOMAHAWK BRAND.
I used them on my ZX12R Ninja primarily because of price because that monster 1200 was eating tires.
These tires were made of an odd compound which wore very unevenly but the worst part was when you encountered even the slightest bit of water, I mean if a fly spat on them it was like a bar of soap, they would break loose at any speed. I was once caught in an unexpected rain and I could not get up a 6% grade, that's like your standard freeway on ramp.
I don't see any mention of those tires anymore and with good reason, there a road hazard.

When chosing a tire that you want to do track and road with go for any of the duel compound tires. Like the Diablo Rosso, it has a harder compound in the middle for road longevity and sticky soft rubber on the walls for grip when leaning over.

All the main tire brands make a tire for this type of work. They are not the longest lasting, but they are the most fun.

I get tires through the mechanic who's working on my bike. It makes no sense to try to save a few bucks by getting them from a third party. It would be like walking into a restaurant with some hamburger and asking them to make me a burger.

Dunlop GT501's have been fine for me in the past, but for my next bike....hmmmmm.

I prefer Michelins for ultimate grip

It's obvious that most folks like Dunlops..........has anyone out there experimented with Pirelli. Just curious to hear what your thoughts are on that brand.

I would never go the bargain route with bike tires - as with anything else, you get what you pay for.

I definitely agree that you get what you pay for, when it comes to tires, your main concern shouldn't be price.. I've only used the Dunlop Sportmax Q2's, but would love to give the Pirelli's a try! Thanks for the chance!
