Racing legend Kenny Roberts chosen as face of 2013's inaugural American International Motorcycle Expo Hot

American International Motorcycle Expo

American motorcycle racing legend Kenny Roberts has been named "American International Motorcycle Champion" by AIM in advance of the 2013 American International Motorcyle Expo to be held next month in Florida. Roberts will essentially serve as the face of the inaugual AIMExpo.

Energetic, charismatic and brash and possessing an unquenchable desire for success, Roberts rose to the status of icon in the world of racing in the 1970s and is considered by many to be the most well-rounded rider of all time.

Now 61, the Hall of Famer and native of Modesto, CA captured numerous US Grand National championships in the dirt track and road racing disciplines before making to Europe to compete full-time in road racing. He became the first rookie and first American to win the FIM 500cc World Grand Prix Championship in 1978 (now MotoGP) and captured three consecutive world titles (1978-80).

An advocate for his fellow competitors, Roberts took on the status quo and fought for change in how the Grand Prix did business. He was at least partially responsible for increased financial support and improved safety regulations. As a team owner, Roberts oversaw a three-year run of world titles by fellow American Wayne Rainey.

The AIMExpo, set for Oct. 16-20 at the Orange County Convention Centerin Orlando, will be North America's first combined consumer, trade and media event. The show aims to create a grand stage for motorcycling while delivering an efficient and energetic market-timed expo platform for B2B and B2C in the motorcycle industry.

Roberts' role will see him involved with pre-event publicity and promotion as well as being an integral part of the Expo's grand opening. He will share his championship experiences and expertise throughout the consumer days of the show (Oct. 18-20).

"I've admired KR's (Kenny's) longstanding world champion stature, his instant recognition to many generations of motorcyclists, and his continued commitment to the sport today," said Larry Little, Vice President and General Manager of AIMExpo. In recognition of the significance of Roberts' involvement with AIMExpo and in tribute to his dirt-track roots, show producer Marketplace Events Motorcycle Group has commissioned a Star Bolt by Yamaha to be given away at the show.

"I've known Larry and other members of the AIMExpo team for a long time and they are the right group to bring the popular European model of an all-inclusive motorcycle event to the American market," said Roberts.
