The second half of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heads north this weekend – way north to Toronto’s Rogers Centre, the only race outside U.S. borders.
Although Ryan Villopoto ultimately dominated at Daytona SX last weekend, leading every lap of the race, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider lies in the shadow of Ryan Dungey. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dungey has 192 points going into round 10, while Villopoto has 172.
On the intial start at Daytona, Dungey got the holeshot, but the race was red flagged due to J-Law Racing Yamaha rider Grant Langston hitting the dirt hard. No official reports have been released about the South African, but on his Facebook page he said he sustained several injuries and will be out of racing for a while.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey raced to second place in Saturday night’s ninth round of the AMA/ FIM Supercross Championship at Daytona to keep his championship lead intact.
Dungey put together 20 fast laps in the Supercross Main Event after winning his heat race. He came out of the gate third and had his work cut out for him trying to pass his way into the top spot. By the end of the phenomenal race, on the track designed by Ricky Carmichael, Dungey crossed the finish line in second and holds tight to his lead in the overall points standing. “I felt great, but I needed to get a little bit of a better start,” Dungey said. “I felt great; the team did a great job; and we have a great setup, but I came up a little short. Fitness-wise and bike setup-wise, I felt awesome.”

Daytona Bike Week. The words resonate in the souls of many bikers, especially motorcycle racing fans. All of the AMA’s finest racing is there: Flat Track, Supersport, American Superbike, Daytona SportBike, and, of course, Supercross.
Attracting the most fans, the difficult layout with many different soils also requires much skill from riders in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. And one rider that continues to prove his skill on the dirt is the Rookie Ryan Villopoto, who remained unchallenged for every lap at Daytona.
After taking his fourth victory of the season, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider is now only 20 points behind championship-leader Ryan Dungey, who has 190 points.

Chad Reed may race today during round 9 of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championship at Daytona.
The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider has missed the last six races due to injuries he sustained during the “crash heard ‘round the world” with his rival James Stewart in Phoenix during round 2.
The number-22 rider said he was sick of missing races that he could have been a great competitor in, and if he can’t race at Daytona, he’ll definetly practice to get a feel for the racing environment once again.
Reed, 27, had surgery after breaking his left hand during the Phoneix race, and continues to recover. The Australian reported still feeling pain while racing, and would rather heal 100-percent before getting back in the SX action. His had back-to-back 19-place finishes during the first two rounds at Anaheim and Phoenix.
Stewart has also missed some racing, the San Manuel Yamaha rider’s return unknown. After round 3, Stewart felt some pain in his right wrist, and subsequently had surgery for a broken scaphoid. |

Could there possibly be a better venue for showcasing the midway point of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship other than Daytona International Speedway?
The track, designed by SX legend Ricky Carmichael and built by three-time National Champion Mark Barnett, features 38 jumps in a challenging 2900-foot layout that will require much rider concentration to determine the points leader.
Will Ryan Dungey remain in the number-one slot? The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider had a flawless ride at Atlanta last week, taking the championship lead he shared going into the race with Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto.

Going into Atlanta, two riders were vying for the lead in the 2010 Monster Energy Supercross Championship, Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto.
But the Georgia Dome changed it all, giving the lead to Dungey. After capturing his third victory of the season before 69,182 fans on Saturday night, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider now has 170 points; the Belle Plaine, Minn., rider is 20 points ahead of San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill of Carlsbad, Calif.
Dungey grabbed the SX SPIKE Holeshot award, and lead every lap of the race. Honda Red Bull Racing rider Trey Canard of Shawnee, Okla., followed Dungey out of the gate, with Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Villopoto of Poulsbo, Wash., in third.

The 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series heads to The Peach State this weekend. Going into Round 8 at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, the two Ryans are tied on top of the championship with 145 points each.
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto’s win last week at Indy created a tie between him and Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey, who finished second last week.
San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill is only 10 points behind the leaders due to four consecutive second-place finishes before Indy; last week Hill didn’t have a good start and finished the race in ninth place.

Ryan Villopoto’s night looked grim during the first heat race at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday night, but he went on to win his third race of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.
The Monster Energy rider came into Indy SX just three points behind the two riders tied for the championship lead: Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey of Belle Plaine, Minn., and San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill of Carlsbad, Calif.

After six races on the West Coast, the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series moves to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis tonight. The seventh of 17 rounds may be the deciding factor between two riders who share the lead in points.
The rookie Ryan Dungey, who has two wins this season, is tied with San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill with 123 points each. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dungey went into Anaheim III last week with a four-point lead, but could only finish fourth after some mishaps.
Although Hill didn’t win a race this season, after four consecutive second-place finishes he kept himself on top in championship points. Also in the chase is Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto. The number 2 rider lead all 20 laps of last week’s race, and hopes to continue his performance.

During the last West Coast meeting of the 2010 Monster Energy Supercross season, Ryan Villopoto took his second win, giving Poulsbo, Wash., rider a comfortable third-place in the championship point race.
Before 34,227 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider grabbed the SPIKE Holeshot award, and led all 20 laps, building a six-second lead towards the end.
“This is a good spot to be in as we head to Indianapolis next week,” said Villopoto. “I am looking forward to next weekend’s race, and I have put myself in a good position.”
Saturday's race was also the first-ever PINK Supercross race that helped fund the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure 60-mile walk. Feld Motor Sports, which provides the venues for AMA Supercross, and Angels Baseball teamed up at Anaheim III in support of finding a cure for breast cancer.

For the third and final time of the 2010 season, Monster Energy AMA Supercross will be held at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., this weekend.
But besides the usual intensity of the series, Feld Motor Sports, which provides the venues for AMA Supercross, and Angels Baseball are teaming up at Anaheim III in support of finding a cure for breast cancer. This first-ever PINK Supercross race will help fund the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure 60-mile walk.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey goes into Anaheim III with a four-point lead. Dungey, who won at Anaheim II and Phoenix, finished in sixth last weekend at San Diego after colliding with Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto in the first turn.

As millions of NFL fans were preparing for Superbowl 44 between the Colts and the Saints, worrying about the latest lines or players that are hurt, the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship was about to get tighter.
The Saturday night race at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego went to Davi Millsaps of Tallahassee, Fla. The win at round 5 was the Honda Red Bull Racing rider’s first this season, bumping him from seventh to fourth in point standings with 82 points.
“Yeah it was a good night for me,” Millsaps said. “I came out on top. American Honda is the best crew in world. The tack was slick. You had to just be smooth, consistent and make no mistakes and that’s what I did. It was such an amazing race and I can’t explain how good it feels.”

Although he suffered his worst finish of the season last week, the rookie Ryan Dungey has an 11-point lead heading into round 5 of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
And though it was his worst finish, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider still finished fourth at San Francisco. Dungey grabbed the holeshot, and remained in the lead until crashing on Lap 10.
After the mishap, Dungey gave the lead to Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto, who took the win, the third of his career. San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill took second, and Honda Red Bull Racing rider Davi Millsaps third.

The gate at AT&T Park in San Francisco Saturday looked bleak for fans of the top two AMA Supercross riders. It was known that Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Chad Reed would not be racing, but fans were shocked to see Reed’s biggest rival not racing also, defending SX champion James Stewart.
Reed, of Tampa, Fla., is out with a broken hand for the next few weeks, and it was reported Friday that Stewart will also be out for a few weeks. The San Manuel Yamaha rider of Haines City, Fla., broke a bone in his left wrist and underwent successful surgery on Thursday.
Both riders were involved in “the crash heard ‘round the world” during round 2 in Phoenix. With these two rivals out, the race for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is now wide open for just about any rider.

Will the rookie Ryan Dungey make it three consecutive wins this weekend in San Francisco?
Going into round 4 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider has a 15-point lead San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill. This lead came after dominating performances at Phoenix and Anaheim II.
Although the season started off well for Dungey, the team remains focused. "The team needs to keep its feet on the ground and do one race at a time," Team Manager Roger DeCoster said. "We're doing well but the championship is a long way off. We cannot get carried away and think this is it."

Rookie Ryan Dungey made it two in a row Saturday evening at Angel Stadium, Anaheim, Calif., for round 3 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross. But it wasn’t an easy win like his performance at Phoenix; the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider of Belle Plaine, Minn., started the 20-lap race in the seventh position, and didn’t take the lead until lap 14.
Now Dungey has a 15-point lead over San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill of Yoncalla, Ore., who finished at in second place at Anaheim II. Finishing third was Hill’s teammate and defending champion James Stewart of Haines City, Fla.
The $1500 SPIKE Holeshot award went to Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Austin Stroupe of Lincolnton, N.C. Stewart also got a good start, trailing Stroupe from the gate, moving into the lead a few seconds later. Stewart remained in first until the sixth lap; by then Hill had passed Stroupe for second, and began challenging Stewart. Hill finally passed his teammate in the whoops for the lead.

Monster Energy AMA Supercross meets for the second of three times this weekend at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., for Round 3.
After only two races, Anaheim I and Phoenix, there were two different winners and a major racer that will miss out the next couple of races due to injury. Defending champion San Manuel Yamaha rider James Stewart took the season opener at Anaheim I, and the SX rookie Ryan Dungey on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki grabbed the Phoenix win, not being challenged once at the 450-main event.
And who can forget the accident at Phoenix between rivals Stewart and Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Chad Reed? The crash, which may become the most famous of the season, left Reed with a broken left hand that led to surgery; the Number 22 rider will be out for up to six weeks.

Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Chad Reed will not be racing in AMA Supercross for a minimum of six weeks after undergoing surgery Monday on his left hand.
The Number 22 rider broke his hand during the now famous accident at the 450-main event at Phoenix during week two of the season, Kawasaki confirmed today.
Surgery was performed on Monday in California; Reed had surgery on a bone that broke in his left hand when he was in an accident with his biggest rival, San Manuel Yamaha rider James Stewart.
“This will be the first time Chad has ever missed a supercross,” said Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher. “I know Chad wants to be racing. His surgery went really well and will start his rehabilitation as soon as he can. We want him to be 100 percent when he returns so he can put his Monster Energy Kawasaki on the podium.”
Kawasaki said Reed’s teammate Ryan Villopoto scored his first podium finish of the season in Phoenix and is looking to earn his first win of the season at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. this weekend. The team is currently exploring its options for an interim rider. |
